3 Tips To Maximise Cashback Rewards

Cashback sites have been around for a while now, but with so many Australian cashback & rewards sites, you may be missing out on the best deals.

Our Top 3 Tips To Help Maximise Your Cashback Rewards

Tip #1: Check All Cashback Options

If you're not new to the cashback game, then you'll have heard of Shopback, they boast 1.5 million local members and are the largest player in the Australian market (at least since Cashrewards' shock closure in September 2025).

The second most popular cashback site, TopCashback is still relatively new to the Australian market. While their member base is growing quickly, there are still plenty of Australians out of the loop on this one.

While those two are currently the big players, always compare with the little guys too (like Grow My Money & Cashback Australia) to make sure you're not leaving sweet, sweet cashback on the table.

It pays to check around

What's this? Your third Uber Eats order this week? Not judging, but why get 5% cashback from Shopback, when Topcashback has a sneaky boosted offer for 15%. Plus, if you're new to the platform, there may be a sign up bonus to boot (see our not so humble referral links in the footer 👇).

Supercharge your cashback search

Rewardist (that's us! 👋) searches the interwebs for all the best cashback offers available. We're like a little search engine, but one that compares cashback sites & earns you money.

In the example above, we can see that the boosted Shopback offer of 20% is by far the highest offer without having to go to each cashback site manually 🥳, saving our precious time to spend on the important things, like... watching too much Netflix and doomscrolling social media?

Tip #2: Consider Frequent Flyer Points

Some stores will have both cashback offers (i.e. money in the proverbial hand), but will often also offer frequent flyer points via programs like Qantas Frequent Flyer & Velocity.

Frequent flyer points can be as rewarding (or sometimes more so) than cashback offers. Let me explain.

Most frequent flyer programs allow you to redeem them for things like toasters and gift cards, sure, you can do that, but it's not great in terms of a per point value. We at Rewardist prefer to spend our points on flights, you know, on planes (particularly in the pointy end 🥂). That's where the real value lies.

Check out this strange dude (spoiler, it's me), living it up in Singapore Airline's fine business class, thanks to frequent flyer points.

That being said, it's good to keep in mind what you personally value and what a point is worth to you.

If you have no idea, a good place to start is our simplistic valuation of 1c per point. That makes it easy to compare points & cashback offers like-for-like. See our full How It Works page for more.

Tip #3: Shop Around, Even Outside Cashback Sites

That's right, we're telling you to consider not even using a cashback site.

Sometimes you can find better deals with stores that aren't partners of cashback sites, so do your due diligence (and a little 1st grade math) and see if that new Samsung Galaxy S-something you've been eyeing off, would be cheaper elsewhere.

It might seem obvious, but it's not too hard to get caught up in the cashback funnel, expecially when they're a limited-time boosted offer.

Price Comparison

Our go-to tool for price comparison is probably a no-brainer: Google Shopping.

Just whack your product in the search bar.

Google Shopping Search

Take a look, sure, but don't be too tempted by the sponsored products.

Google Shopping Sponsored Products

The real value of Google Shopping is in the regular results, click on the desired product and compare prices from tons of stores. Don't forget to check the price range to get an idea of what it typically goes for.

After that not-so-hard work, you should have an idea of what stores offer the product you're after and which ones have the best prices.

The next step is to head on over to Rewardist and start checking each store for a great cashback (or points!) offer.

Rewardist Cashaback Search For The Good Guys

Find the best offer that suits you and click through to the platform...buuut, hold up a sec, make sure the cashback makes your buy cheaper than any of the other prices you found on Google Shopping.

If it does, sweet 🥳! If not, head back to Google and jump on that low, low price.

Conclusion

In short, it pays to do your research, that includes comparing cashback offers from the various platforms, considering non-cash based rewards that have a real cash value such as frequent flyer points and lastly making sure that, cashback or not, you're getting the best price you can by utilising price comparison tools.

Happy Shopping.
